Botchorishvili Revaz

Expert

Professor, MD, obstetrician-gynecologist, laparoscopic surgeon. Director of the International Centre of endoscopic surgery (CICE) and Head of the diagnostic and treatment Centre of endoscopic surgery of Policlinique de Hotel-Dieu (France), Head of gynecological department of Centre Hospitaller Universitaire Clermont-Ferrad

Information on the scientist:

Professor Botchorishvili Revaz has been staying for France for more than 20 years, and for more than 10 years he has been at the head of the International Centre of endoscopic surgery (Clermont-Ferrand, France) (www.pedagogieclermont-ferrand.org)

Together with Professor Bettokki (Bari, Italy) and Professor Malzoni (Avellino, Italy) Professor Botchorishvili present three European “whales” of Big Laparoscopic Surgery!

At the end of the 80-th of the previous century Revaz Botchorishvili emigrated from the U.S.S.R. He has started in the field of surgery, defended his dissertation, having the subject “Biological lymphosorbtion of a donor’s spleen in treatment of acute purulent peritonitis: experimental investigation” to stand for candidate’s degree in State Medical Institute in Tbilisi..

Having come to France and having testified his Diploma and scientific degree, Revaz Botchorishvili was carried away by advanced techniques of minimally invasive surgery, having made studying and teaching laparoscopic surgery the essence of his life. Now Revaz Botchorishvili is a professor, and is the only person from the ex-U.S.S.R., who has become the head of the largest in the world educational centre, related to minimally invasive surgery-the International Centre of endoscopic surgery- Centre International de Chirurgie Endoscopique - CICE (www.cice.fr).

Professor Botchorishvili, in spite of the fact, that he is extremely busy with the administrative and public activities, he constantly improves the techniques of laparoscopic treatment of gynecological diseases in females, for example: TVT-operation-it is plasty in case of urinary incontinence in females, then sacrocolpopexy operation, Profit-operation in case of genital prolapse and many others.

Due to the talent of a teacher and surgeon , Professor Botchorishvili has turned a small town, situated at the distance of 450 km from Paris in Overne province into Mecca for laparoscopic surgeons and gynecologists. Annually, within the last 15 years dozens of practicing surgeons from all ex-republics of the Soviet Union come to Professor to learn the ABC of laparoscopic surgery, as well as to master their practical habits and to get acquainted with new techniques in laparoscopic surgery. For the younger generation of surgeons to work on probation with Professor Bochorishvili has become a “gold standard”-comme ‘il faut. Some of his pupils compare their trip to the educational centre-CICE-as a possibility to drink water from the purest spring, to get the latest information on your speciality in Russian, not in “your awful French”. It is a pity, that not everybody can afford to stay there for 3-6 month course, but only for short 5-7 day training. And it will be better to stay for 2 years to increase the degree and level of practical habits, and it could change the thinking of our young surgeons and would teach them to think, using European standards.

Among Professor Botchorishvili’s pupils there are more than 10 professors from 7 European countries. Professor Botchorishvili regularly attends Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine as Honoured Guest and organizer of congresses, symposium, on laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery and gynecology, he holds master-classes and demonstrates operations.

The way Professor Botchorishvili tells about his speciality is the way of telling of his job by a person who really loves his job! “Laparoscopic surgery is like aviation, and a surgeon is a pilot of a huge airplane! It is not possible to imagine a pilot without endless trainings! The same thing regarding a surgeon who works in the field of laparoscopy! He should also constantly train! A doctor’s motivation in improving his habits should be high, and it should be based on patients’ interests! It is especially important in the field of gynecology as your task is not only to save a patient’s life, but to preserve her health, beauty, reproductive potential, possibility to enjoy life!

Each surgeon should constantly think, that any laparoscopic operation is the stage for education, even for the most experienced doctor, it is the way to increase the level of knowledge.”

Professor Botchorishvili performs a great scientific work, his 67 articles have been published in the world famous journals on obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery, including the following:
